Really.
The best version of Flash is Flash MX, if you want only animation, and nothing else. Flash MX is the fastest, the simplest.
You COULD switch to Flash 8, but it will not be worth it... you won't feel the difference.
Collabs are not satisfying or rewarding anyway. Sure, you can submit your part, but you won't feel as if you achieved something. Collab is not your personal submission. It's a collab of many people. Even if you make something good, it will get flooded by crap which others produce, and in the end the whole collab will still get a low score.
Individual artists from collabs never get attention - most collabs are treated as shit. Only collabs by famous talented artists are recognized as something high-quality.
So the better option for you is to make your own movies.
For example, if you already have a short animation, you could continue it, then add more to it, until it becomes a long enough movie to submit.

Elias may be a bit busy with Madness Customization II.
You could draw your own backgrounds, I think you can draw well enough. Even if it turns out bad, it will still be your own.

I don't see any difference, both are to animate, make sprites, games, etc.
PS: I just can't compare the two programs because I never could install Adobe Flash CS5 :P
